Tharoor tweets apology

Having been born in a family full of senior bureaucrats (Indian), I have seen the stark manner in which they view the common man over here. I have heard them very plainly mention them (common man of India) as Asses (donkeys). Having been given fabulous salaries, and an immensity of perks, including incredible pension amounts, it is a fact of independent Indian bureaucracy that this official turned politician has displayed. He is not to be faulted for these words, for it comes naturally for all bureaucrats, and it more or less reflects the reality here. Once after a time of daily visits to the British Library in Bombay, when I came to my home state and went to take my Election ID, which I couldnt collect on time at the local civil station (Taluk Office), I literally found the people being treated like cattle. Actually this was the very word I used to describe the way the officials treated the persons who had come there. No place to sit, no facility for toilets, no drinking water, and no shade from the burning sun. People had to wait till evening to collect the cards. Why I mentioned the British library was the sudden change in attitude that I felt between the two; the officials at the British Library and the Indian officials (both Indians, but different training).
